Live-In Caregiver Application

Live-in caregivers are individuals that are qualified to care for children, elderly persons, persons with disabilities and those persons who have high medical needs. These individuals are being sponsored by their employers and live in the private household of the sponsoring employer in Canada or they can live out as I have explained below. People applying for a Canadian work permit under this category must meet certain conditions, such as secondary school completion, work experience, or training.

To qualify as a live-in caregiver in Canada the individual has to apply to the Human Resources and Skills Development Canada/Service Canada in order to obtain a labour marker opinion, based on an employment contract.

Permanent Resident Status
The live-in caregiver may apply for Canadian permanent resident status after working for two years within a four year period of entering Canada, or working for 3900 hours over a 22 month period, within these four years as a live-in caregiver.

For more information regarding immigration to Canada as a live-in caregiver please complete the self assessment application and email us with your relevant background as a Live-in Caregiver or details regarding the individual you wish to sponsor under this category.

Immigration Canada has recently given live-caregivers the option of not living in the private home and caring for the individuals mentioned in the first paragraph above.
